Thomas Shoffner

Thomas Shoffner

Family Trauma Specialist

Finding Hope Counseling Services, LLC was founded in August of 2020 by Thomas Shoffner, LPC and is in Philadelphia, MS. Our founder, Thomas, presently holds a dual license in both Mississippi and Pennsylvania and is trained Marriage and Family Counseling from Mississippi College.

Thomas has worked in mental health consistently for the past 7 years. During this time, he has worked in different areas. These include inpatient facilities, Behavior Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS or Wraparound), outpatient, and community mental health. This also included working with kids, adults, teens, and families.

During all these positions, Thomas realized how not everyone who can benefit from therapy services can attain them. Resources and therapy are not always readily available for them in means of being affordable or easily attainable. Upon realizing this, Thomas decided to start his own practice to ensure that those who were in need were able to attain the help they deserve when it comes to their mental health.

Finding Hope Counseling Services strives to make therapy affordable to as many clients as possible.

FST: Family Systems Trauma
Family Systems Trauma (FST) was created by Dr. Scott Sells who founded Family Trauma Institute. The model allows the therapist to work with the families, couples, and with individuals to improve the overall dynamic. The FST model looks at the unhealthy undercurrents being experienced, addresses the toxic seeds, and works to change things to become healthier as each item is addressed and worked on. This includes, at times, addressing diet, exercise, and other aspects to help treat the symptoms and get to the root of the overall problem.

The model is part of the PLL Model that requires that any model part of the PLL to be backed by evidence to verify it’s effectiveness. Learn more about FST here.
